Ideal Weight Calculator
There's no single correct "ideal weight." It's a range, and different clinical formulas land on slightly different numbers. Instead of picking one and pretending it's exact, this tool shows you three recognized estimates side by side, calculated from your height alone, so you get a realistic picture rather than one falsely precise figure.
Worth knowing: these formulas were built decades ago for fairly narrow clinical uses, like working out medication dosing weight. They were never meant to be a personal target to chase. Treat the numbers below as something to bring up with a doctor, not a finish line.
Devine formula
70.5 kg
Robinson formula
68.9 kg
Healthy BMI range
56.7–76.3 kg
How each formula works
The Devine formula (1974) and Robinson formula (1983) both start from a base weight for 5 feet of height and add a fixed amount per inch above that — they were originally developed for medication dosing, not general health advice, which is why they're conservative estimates. The healthy BMI range simply back-calculates the weight range corresponding to a BMI of 18.5–24.9 at your height — the same range used in our BMI Calculator.
What these formulas miss
- Frame size. Someone with naturally larger bones will healthily weigh more than these numbers suggest, and the reverse is true for a smaller frame.
- Muscle mass. A genuinely athletic person can sit well above these figures and still be perfectly healthy.
- Age. Healthy body composition shifts as people get older, and none of these formulas adjust for that.
- Ancestry. Some research on South Asian populations suggests the healthy weight-for-height relationship isn't identical across groups.
If you want a fuller picture than weight alone can give you, pair this with your body fat percentage.
This tool provides a general estimate for informational purposes only and is not a substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. Individual results vary based on factors this calculator doesn't measure (body composition, medical conditions, medications). Always consult a doctor or registered dietitian before making significant changes to your diet or exercise routine.

Frequently Asked Questions
Because there isn't really one scientifically "correct" ideal weight. Devine and Robinson were built at different times for different clinical purposes, and the healthy-BMI-range gives a wider, more realistic band on top of that. Showing all three avoids pretending any single figure is the medically superior one.
